The solution to all the aforementioned crises is only possible through Guru-Diksha. By following the path shown by the Guru and practicing diligently, a person has the ability to transform their fortune or misfortune into good fortune.
The great sages, by the will of God, have described paths in the scriptures for the welfare of humanity. Among these, the most superior path is the study of scriptures through which one can receive training for the protection of life. The one who imparts this knowledge is called a Guru. The position of the Guru is considered superior to all relationships and even to God.
The knowledge provided by the Guru for living a simple, easy, and secure life, which the Guru shares with emotional experience, is called Diksha. Diksha is the first act performed to receive the honor and grace of this knowledge.
Diksha signifies proficiency and capability. Mastery in any work can only be achieved through the Guru. Mastery means skill. For example, if someone wants to create a sculpture, only one skilled in this art will do it, and learners will seek this artist to learn the skill of sculpture. Similarly, a musician with knowledge of rhythm and melody attracts those who wish to learn or listen to music.
Transmission of Divine Power by the Guru
A son has the right to his father’s entire wealth, but knowledge, which can only be revealed by the Guru, is also obtained through Diksha. Therefore, a father may withhold this rare, confidential, and profound knowledge from a son if he perceives the son’s faults. Diksha has always been highly secretive.
Once the disciple receives Diksha from the Guru, the transmission of divine power begins. The term Diksha is composed of two syllables: “Di” meaning to give, and “Ksha” meaning to destroy. Through Diksha, one gains Brahmic knowledge, and all sins are destroyed.
Diksha is an ancient practice of our Indian culture, wherein the Guru blesses the disciple. Hence, great figures like Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, and Shri Dattatreya received Guru-Diksha and elevated the importance of the Guru.
Just as a sculpted stone statue is consecrated and imbued with divine energy to become revered and honored, similarly, humans, as divine creations, are akin to living statues in this world. Thus, by performing Diksha, mantra, and consecration, the human form is enhanced to attain liberation, which is the true significance of Diksha.
The identity of a Guru is determined by their knowledge and teachings, while a yogi is recognized by their practice, and a disciple by their achievements. The Guru should be skilled, not merely confined to appearance and sermons. Many pretenders who masquerade as Gurus and true Gurus are often distinguishable by their genuine teachings and experiences.
In our ancient Indian tradition, rituals and knowledge are required to transform human thought into humanity and to ensure a successful and pure life, leading towards humanity.
Preserving the ancient Vedic cultural tradition and the principles of the sages is our paramount duty. It is essential to uphold this rare culture that addresses the mysteries of creation through intellect and reasoning. The power and fear removal, and realization of the self, are possible only through the Guru. Seeking the grace of a learned sage who respects and upholds Indian culture is considered receiving Diksha.
The essence of Diksha is described as:
“Knowledge and science are given, and the group of sins is destroyed. This is called Diksha when obtained from the mouth of a true Guru.”
The special significance of Guru-Diksha is learning and adhering to Vedic and Tantric rules, which leads to obtaining benefits. The sacred Diksha ritual purifies all sins and frees one from all troubles. During Diksha, the Guru bestows grace on the disciple, enabling them to attain the rights for worship, penance, and practice. The Guru imparts this rare knowledge to the disciple.
Every person has inherent divine power within them, which remains dormant due to worldly attachments, karmic impurities, and the five coverings. When the Guru performs the Diksha ritual, these illusory coverings are completely removed, and the disciple becomes aware of their inner divine power.
Just as a king’s son is the rightful heir to the kingdom, a disciple who adopts this tradition of Diksha can establish a kingdom through penance. Penance is the path to achieving victory in elections and other endeavors.
A disciple can protect the Vedic religion by receiving Diksha. Diksha represents self-liberation and the light and illumination that naturally emerge without obstruction.
The four aims of life—dharma, artha, kama, and moksha—are attained through mantra Diksha.
The first benefit is a healthy body. After Diksha, the disciple’s inner and physical development occurs, and chanting mantras enhances mental and spiritual peace, increasing intellectual strength.
The second benefit is wealth and prosperity in the household. Penances lead to wealth and liberation from poverty, often resulting in the establishment of royal status.
The third benefit is a virtuous wife. A wife of a person practicing dharma and penance remains faithful and does not entertain thoughts of others.
The fourth benefit is obedient children. Such disciples are rare, but those who follow the Guru’s guidance can attain all four types of happiness.
This is the core meaning of Diksha. However, some people seek Diksha from tantrics solely for achieving negative goals like black magic or other sinful acts.
